Solomon
Intention: Ask for wisdom applied to real, complicated authority
Offerings & Symbols
- A ring image (echoing his legendary Seal of Solomon)
- A written judgment or wise decision
- Something built with real skill
Culture: Biblical/legendary, later central to Western grimoire tradition Domain: Wisdom, legendary command over spirits
Solomon is a biblical king remembered for wisdom, most famously in the judgment of the disputed baby, and for building the First Temple in Jerusalem; centuries later, medieval and Renaissance European grimoires (magical texts) reimagined him as a legendary commander of spirits and demons through a magical ring or seal, a colorful literary tradition with no basis in the biblical text itself.
Associations
Applied wisdom, wise judgment, legendary authority over spiritual forces (in later legend, not the Bible itself).
Ways people honor him (modern)
- Read the biblical accounts of his wisdom directly, distinct from the later legendary grimoire material
- Practice fair, wise judgment in your own disputes
- Research how the "Solomonic" grimoire tradition developed centuries after the biblical Solomon
- Reflect on the difference between historical/religious figures and their later literary reinvention
Approach any deity with respect and do your own research. Practices vary widely between traditions, and modern devotional practice often goes beyond what survives in ancient sources.
