Vesta
Intention: Tend the hearth as an act of devotion
Offerings & Symbols
- A small hearth flame or candle kept burning while you work
- Bread
- A simple household object
Culture: Ancient Roman Domain: The hearth fire, both domestic and of the state
Vesta parallels Hestia, but her Roman worship was uniquely institutional: the Vestal Virgins, six priestesses who tended her sacred flame in the Roman Forum, held one of the most honored and closely watched positions in Roman religious life, and letting the flame go out was considered a serious omen for the state itself.
