Culture: Ancient Greek Domain: The forge, craftsmanship, fire, invention
Hephaestus is the master smith of Olympus, maker of the gods' weapons and marvels, including automatons of his own devising. Accounts of his lameness and his rough treatment (thrown from Olympus by Hera or Zeus in different versions) sit alongside real respect for his skill; his marriage to Aphrodite in some tellings, and his forge on Lemnos, round out his story.
