Ahura Mazda ("Wise Lord") is the supreme, wholly good creator deity of Zoroastrianism, one of the world's oldest continuously practiced religions, engaged in an eternal cosmic struggle against the destructive spirit Angra Mainyu; fire is treated as a sacred symbol of his truth and light rather than an object of worship itself.
Associations
Wisdom, truth, moral choice between good and destructive forces, light.
Ways people honor him (modern)
- Choose truthful, constructive action deliberately, as Zoroastrian ethics emphasize
- Keep a carefully tended flame as a symbol of clarity and truth
- Research Zoroastrianism as a living religion still practiced today, with real living practitioners and clergy
- Approach this tradition with particular care and respect, since it is an active faith, not solely an ancient one
Approach any deity with respect and do your own research. Practices vary widely between traditions, and modern devotional practice often goes beyond what survives in ancient sources.
