Intention: Ask for protection extended from above
Offerings & Symbols
- A white feather
- A vulture image
- Something watched over from a distance
Culture: Ancient Egyptian Domain: Protection of Upper Egypt, kingship
Nekhbet, shown as a vulture, is protector of Upper Egypt and, alongside Wadjet, one of the two tutelary goddesses of the united kingdom, together called the "Two Ladies"; her wings are often shown spread protectively over the pharaoh in temple and tomb art.
Associations
Overarching protection, watchful care from above, united strength (paired with Wadjet).
Ways people honor her (modern)
- Extend protective care over a wider group, not just close family
- Keep a white feather on the altar
- Read about the "Two Ladies" title carried by every pharaoh
- Reflect on protection that comes from perspective and oversight, not just proximity
Approach any deity with respect and do your own research. Practices vary widely between traditions, and modern devotional practice often goes beyond what survives in ancient sources.
