Skadi is a giantess who becomes formally one of the Norse deities, a fierce huntress of the snowy mountains who came to Asgard seeking vengeance for her father's death and instead was offered a husband from among the gods, choosing Njord by his feet alone, only for the marriage to fail over their incompatible homes. She remains strongly associated with independence and winter's harsh beauty.
